ABOUT THE STUDY

The LöwenKIDS project studies the influence of infections and bacterial colonization during the developement of the immune system in childhood. The study was first established in 2013 at the Helmholtz Zentrum für Infektionsforschung in Brunswick focusing on the regions of Brunswick and surrounding areas, as well as Hanover. As the study progressed, new institutions and new regions joined the project: Bremen in the north, Munich in the south, and Halle (Saale) in the east.

Currently, the study is coordinated by a team from the  Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. Participants are supervised and supported by the team in Halle (Saale), while the Helmholtz Zentrum für Infektionsforschung collects the blood samples for testing. Furthermore, a reliable connection has been established between scientists from the Helmholtz Zentrum für Infektionsforschung, the Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover and the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität München to ensure successful cooperation.
