Workgroup "Modeling in Medical Science" - WGMMS

The Workgroup “Modeling in Medical Science” (WGMMS) is a multidisciplinary group of scientists at the Medical Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), which focuses on the study of infectious and noninfectious diseases using mathematical models.

In this context, the group addresses questions ranging from basic and preclinical research to population-based applications. The scientists develop complex mathematical models for a wide range of diseases, including HPV, hepatitis C, pneumococcus, SARS-CoV-2, nosocomial infections, and cancer.

Another objective of the collaboration is to combine epidemiological and/or biological models with economic analyses to support decision making in medicine and public health policy.

In addition, through its research and teaching activities, the group is committed to promoting the application of modeling approaches in the health sciences.

Projects

The scientists of the research group are currently working on a variety of projects with national and international partners.

From Pandemic Prepardness to Public Health – our modeling projects deal with a number of topics.
