CoPreP
Collaboration for Pandemic Preparedness
The University Medicine Halle (UMH) would like to contribute to strengthening pandemic preparedness in Saxony-Anhalt with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic, but also in the event of a similar threat to the health of the population in Saxony-Anhalt and Germany.
The “CoPreP” consortium brings together the UMH’s strengths in the areas of epidemiology and nursing research, clinical research and health services research as well as application-oriented experimental research.
Pandemic diseases represent one of the greatest threats to humanity. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has been addressing this problem for many years, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how massive deficits and knowledge gaps exist in the preparation of health systems to pandemic situations are still the case.
The CoPreP initiative of the University Medicine Halle (UMH) aims to use its projects to contribute to strengthening pandemic preparedness in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, with regard to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also develops strategies to better prepare for future pandemics for Saxony-Anhalt and all of Germany.
Over 40 scientists from 30 institutes and clinical facilities at the University Medicine Halle (UMH) form the “CoPreP” consortium (Collaboration for Pandemic Preparedness).
CoPreP consists of a series of projects from 2 subject areas.
On the one hand, the projects under this topic are intended to help build sustainable structures in the fight against pandemics. Providing the expertise to optimally control the pandemic in Saxony-Anhalt plays an important role in this.
On the other hand, analyses should create a robust database on the effects of the pandemic and pandemic-related measures. These analyses lay the foundation for the development of support measures for decisions on healthcare in relation to, but also beyond, the fight against the pandemic.
The clinical research area focuses on the comprehensive characterization of patients suffering from Long COVID and the resulting findings. The projects in this area are therefore concerned with setting up a Long COVID registry and an active outpatient study clinic.
